To save money and earn as much as they can, some homeowners are opting to sell their properties themselves. However, a new report suggests that utilizing the services of a real estate agent could be more beneficial.

By using a real estate agent, sellers have a much higher chance of quickly offloading their properties, according to HomeGain. This year alone, an estimated 66 percent of homeowners who used a real estate agent sold their homes, compared to just 30 percent of those who tried to do it themselves.

"A qualified Realtor understands the dynamics of the market and can better assist home sellers in the pricing and preparation of their homes for sale," said HomeGain general manager Louis Cammarosano.

Meanwhile, property data indicates that 22 percent of owners who started the process without the help of a professional eventually hired a Realtor. Of these individuals, 55 percent sold their homes.

As property values continue to build momentum across the country, there could be an increase in homeselling activity in the near future, as current owners escape from under the thumb of negative equity.
