1. Cut down on clutter
A cluttered, confusing desk is one key reason why many people end up disorganized at work. According to Monster, finding a way to keep track of all those important papers, documents and files will prevent things from slipping through the cracks. 

"Have a dedicated basket or small shelf for pending projects, and stack them in order of deadline," Janet Luhrs, author of The Simple Living Guide, told the news source. "If the deadline isn't today, create a second file - not on your desk - for items that are due later in the week."

2. Use time wisely
Time management is a big reason why many people can stay organized on the job. Monster explained that finding a few minutes throughout the day can provide plenty of opportunities to clean up and stay on track. For example, balancing time wisely will allow professionals to dedicate five minutes at the end of the day to organization, instead of simply rushing out the door.

3. Focus on effective communication
Communication is one of the most important parts of being a professional. Checking it too frequently gets in the way of being productive, and responding to everything drains away time. Instead, answer only the important ones and log in less frequently.

4. Balance free time and work
Everybody needs some time to relax. Bakken noted that well-organized people can balance their free time and their work effectively. For example, they can de-clutter their desks while on hold during a phone call, they can make lists while waiting for meetings to start and they can find other opportunities to relax and rest their minds throughout the day.
